| Remarks: | Canadian Pacific Railway was the first railway to build a railroad to Western Canada. Primary construction occurred between 1881-1885. Diesel-electric locomotives started to replace steam engines around the 1940's. They required much less maintenance and parts were much more interchangeable. |
