Leitch Collieries operated in the Crowsnest Pass during the early 1900's. Like most coal mines in Alberta, the switch to oil, natural gas and diesel for heating and as a transportation fuel led to its eventual demise and shutdown. Leitch Collieries was quite advanced in its operation during its time and had automated quite a lot of its processes using steam power.
